How Pests Pose Threats To Your Health

Threats Pests Pose To Your Health

If left undetected and free from Mortein, they bite, sting & simply scurry across the floor of our homes with impunity. Besides invading our homes, insects can bring a host of health risks with them. Even death can occur from severe allergic reactions to certain insect stings. The more you know about the potential health risks insects carry, the better you can protect yourself, your home & your family.

Let’s discuss a few health hazards that insects can expose your family to:

Allergies

The majority of insect species have the potential to cause major allergies. You don’t necessarily need to make contact with them to experience allergic reactions, their mere presence in the walls or ventilation systems can cause health complications. Make sure you spray the cracks and holes on your walls with Mortein and terminate these little buggers before they contribute to the following allergies:

Cockroaches leave droppings, however, their saliva, and even decayed cadavers, are known to trigger allergies. For this reason alone, cockroach infestations can have long-term effects, even after extermination, since decaying cockroaches in walls still produce allergens, if not properly cleared out.

Dust mites eat dead skin cells and absorb water from your home’s air. The resulting dryness and dust mite debris in a house can cause major allergic reactions.

Termites cause allergies by spreading dust throughout the air in your home or business. Ventilation systems ensure this dust gets spread even further.

Asthma & Respiratory Issues

Insect infestations are a major health hazard, especially for individuals already suffering with asthma. As discussed above, cockroach carcasses & droppings release a protein that has been proven to trigger an allergic reaction in susceptible individuals. This may lead to a severe, life-threatening asthma attack. Even if no one in your family currently has respiratory issues, long-term exposure to these bugs and their droppings can harm your lungs. As the infestation grows and persists, the chances of harm increase exponentially. Insect infestations aren’t only gross and unsanitary, but they also have the potential to be dangerous, too. So make sure you annihilate them with Mortein before they get to you!

Infection

Insects are notorious for carrying germs. They spend the majority of their time in contaminated areas, such as pipes and sewers, and any present germs gladly hitch a ride on their backs. As they move around your home, they increase the chances of making you sick. These are some diseases and ailments spread by some of the most common pests:

Cockroaches pick up salmonella & E. coli bacteria as they rummage through garbage and waste.

Ticks & Fleas carry a number of diseases, including Lyme disease and different types of fevers.

Viruses

Malria

Malaria is caused by infected female Anopheles mosquitoes, called ‘malaria vectors’. This viral disease kills nearly one million Pakistanis every year. It is typically unstable and major transmission period is post monsoon i.e. from August to November.

In 2015, 1 million cases were reported from Pakistan, despite decreasing trends between 2010 to 2015, when 400,000 fewer cases of malaria (annually) were seen from previous years.

A total of 8,944 malaria cases were reported over an 8-year period, with minimum cases reported in 2008 (96) and maximum in 2014 (2,625), depicting a secular incline and seasonality in malaria cases.

Dengue

Dengue is a mosquito-borne viral disease that has rapidly spread in all regions of Pakistan in recent years. These mosquitoes are also vectors of chikungunya, yellow fever and Zika viruses. Dengue is widespread throughout the tropics, with local variations in risk influenced by rainfall, temperature, relative humidity and unplanned rapid urbanization.

Karachi has seen a rapid increase in the number of dengue cases with 900 cases being reported in October alone.

As many as 2,000 dengue cases have been reported in Sindh this year so far and 975 cases were reported in October, of which 927 were in Karachi.

In Punjab, 53 cases had been confirmed from January to September in the province. However, 45 patients were discharged after recovery with 8 patients under close observation. No death from dengue has been reported this year due to effective measures of Punjab government, the P&SHD spokesperson claimed.

Please make sure you spray Mortein on the tiny gaps between your doorways as these pests crawl inside your home from these places.
